What Are The 6 Different Types Of Origami?

The six different types of origami are the simple fold, the valley fold, the mountain fold, the petal fold, the reverse fold, and the sink fold.

  1. Simple Fold: This is the most basic fold and is used for most origami models. To do the simple fold, take a piece of paper and fold it in half width-wise. Open the paper and fold it in half again. Now, fold the top corner down to the bottom corner. Open the paper and refold the top corner to the bottom corner. Finally, fold the two opposite corners to the center.
  2. Valley Fold: The valley fold is used to create hills and valleys in origami models. To do a valley fold, take a piece of paper and fold it in half width-wise. Open the paper and fold the top corner down to the bottom corner. Now, fold the left and right corners in to the center.
  3. Mountain Fold: The mountain fold is used to create mountains in origami models. To do a mountain fold, take a piece of paper and fold it in half width-wise. Open the paper and fold the top corner down to the bottom corner. Now, fold the top left and right corners in to the center.
  4. Petal fold: This fold is named for its similarity to a petal on a flower. It is achieved by taking a sheet of paper and folding it in half twice, so that there are four equal-sized folds. Then, taking one of the folds in the center and folding it to the edge of the page, creating a petal shape. Finally, tucking the loose edge of the petal underneath itself.
  5. Reverse fold: This fold is achieved by taking a sheet of paper and folding it in half once, so that there is one equal-sized fold. Then, taking the fold in the center and folding it to the edge of the page, creating a petal shape. Finally, tucking the loose edge of the petal underneath itself.
  6. Sink fold: This fold is achieved by taking a sheet of paper and folding it in half once, so that there is one equal-sized fold. Then, taking the fold in the center and folding it to the edge of the page, creating a petal shape.
